The days leading to Durga Puja in Kolkata portrays the real picture of Kumartuli . It reveals the workaholic culture at its hilt. This Durga Puja mandal was inaugurated 1961 and since then it has been holding Durga Puja every year. This Durga Puja pandal is located in Central Kolkata, at the junction of Sitaram Ghosh Street, Nabin chandra Paul Lane and Beniatola Lane .

In the initial year the Puja was sponsored by the Localities donation . Though once started the tradition was maintained in the year that followed and slowly emerged into a g rand success. Pry or to 1961, the enjoyment and enthusiasm was deprived from the location and glum faces were evident among them. It paused for the beginning of Para Puma in the Central kolkata lanes .

These localities came together and hand in-hand made the Puja at Sitaram Ghosh Street , Nabin Paul Lane and Beniatola Lane a grand success .The term Baroari’ Puja was coined for these areas when the ‘ Das Bari ’ Puja came to an end , In the beautiful and bright autumn days Maa Durga was being worshiped for the first time in 1961 in these area . It was then anxiously decided that the Puja would be done at the centre of the Para. The people without whom this Puja would not have been started are namely Gobardhan Laha, Manik Da, Debu Da, Babu Da , Pahari Da, Anil Da, Ashim da, Barin and many more Philanthropist . The main objective of this puja is to provide the message of peace to the masses with endless joy, prosperity, love & happiness forever.

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCES

DR. NABIN CHANDRA PAUL

Dr. Nabin Chandra Paul was one of the most important personalities in the history of Bengal. He was the 1st. student of Calcutta Medical College. After completion of his studies in School with the aid of David Hare, he sought admission in Medical College. He was an avid follower of David Hare since his childhood. After his course in Calcutta Medial College, he joined Dhaka Medical College as employee. Than soon after he joined kolkata once again. By than his fame has been so far and a wide teat even Sri Ram- krishna Paramhansa was taken ill. This has been said in the biography of Ramkrishna Paramhansa. In 189², at 76 years of age his soul left for heauenly abode in the month of May.

SITARAM GHOSH

The Name ‘Sitaram Ghosh’ street has been traced in the directory of Scott Company. Family history reveals Sitaram Ghosh as an eminent entrepreneur. The Ghosh Family of‘Behala Barish’ area is the ancestors of Sitaram Ghosh. Though the lane taken a place in the history of Kolkata, yet no date has been traced whether Sitaram Ghosh was engaged in any social upliftment or in charity at that time.
